Could a diabetes drug be the key to slowing Parkinson's?

NCT ID NCT04232969

First seen May 07, 2026

Summary

This study tested whether exenatide, a drug already used for type 2 diabetes, can slow the progression of Parkinson's disease. About 194 people with early-stage Parkinson's received either exenatide or a placebo once a week for two years. The goal was to see if the drug could protect nerve cells and reduce worsening of movement and other symptoms.
