First seen Oct 31, 2025 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 28 times

Summary

This study tested whether esketamine (a nasal spray) works as well as electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) for quickly reducing suicidal thoughts in people with depression or bipolar disorder. 340 adults aged 18-65 with moderate to severe suicidal ideation took part. The goal was to see if esketamine could offer a less invasive alternative to ECT for this urgent symptom.
