Ketamine cousin tested to calm minds of depressed breast cancer patients during surgery

Summary

This study aims to see if giving the drug esketamine during surgery can help reduce anxiety and depression symptoms in breast cancer patients who also have severe depression. It will involve about 240 female patients undergoing breast cancer surgery. Researchers will compare those who receive esketamine during their operation to those who do not, measuring their emotional state, sleep quality, pain, and recovery.
