New study tests Scope-Based lesion removal in western patients

NCT ID NCT02989818

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study is tracking 300 adults who are already scheduled to have a procedure called endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) to remove abnormal growths in their digestive tract. Researchers want to see how often the lesion can be removed in one piece with clear margins, and how safe the procedure is. The goal is to gather real-world evidence on whether ESD works well in Western patients.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) procedure

What this could lead to

If successful, this study could confirm that ESD is a safe and effective standard technique for removing early gastrointestinal lesions in Western patients, potentially reducing the need for more invasive surgery.

What could go wrong

This is an observational study, not a randomized trial, so it cannot prove ESD is better than other methods. Results may vary across centers and patient groups.
