Knee surgery study reveals eye pressure changes from epidurals

NCT ID NCT07458321

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study looked at 60 adults having total knee replacement to see if epidural anesthesia temporarily increases pressure inside the head, measured by ultrasound of the optic nerve sheath. Participants were randomly assigned to receive either epidural or spinal anesthesia. The goal was to understand how the volume of anesthetic affects the eye, not to treat any disease.
