Could a tiny sensor replace the glucose drink test for new moms?

NCT ID NCT06184373

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study looks at whether a continuous glucose monitor (CGM) — a small sensor worn under the skin — is an acceptable and useful tool for checking diabetes risk in women who recently had gestational diabetes. Twenty women will wear the CGM for 10 days at 6-8 weeks after giving birth, then complete surveys about their experience. The goal is to see if CGM could improve low follow-up rates for postpartum diabetes screening.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

continuous glucose monitor (CGM)

What this could lead to

If successful, this could show that CGM is a practical and acceptable way to screen for diabetes risk after gestational diabetes, potentially improving follow-up care.

What could go wrong

This is a very small early study (20 participants) focused on acceptability, not on proving that CGM prevents diabetes. Results may not apply to all women.
