Keyhole surgery showdown: which technique works best for slipped discs?
NCT ID NCT07151651
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study compares two minimally invasive surgical techniques—uniportal and biportal endoscopy—for treating a single-level lumbar disc herniation. Sixty adults aged 18-70 with persistent symptoms will be randomly assigned to one of the two procedures. The main goal is to see which technique provides better pain relief and surgical outcomes.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Endoscopic lumbar discectomy (surgical procedure)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could help surgeons choose the best endoscopic technique for treating herniated discs, potentially improving pain relief and recovery.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage comparative study with only 60 participants, so results may not apply to all patients. Surgical risks like infection or nerve damage still apply.
