Cervical mucus may hold key to better IVF timing
NCT ID NCT04619524
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This study is collecting cervical mucus from 476 women undergoing IVF or frozen embryo transfer. Researchers will analyze the proteins in the mucus to find markers that indicate when the uterus is most receptive to an embryo. By comparing samples from women who become pregnant with those who do not, they hope to develop a test that helps doctors choose the optimal time for embryo transfer.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to a simple test to determine the best time for embryo transfer, potentially improving IVF success rates.
What could go wrong
This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. It may not identify reliable biomarkers, and any future test would require further validation.
