Can a magnetic chair ease bowel leakage after J-Pouch surgery?

NCT ID NCT07034443

First seen Aug 12, 2026 · Last updated Aug 13, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests whether a special chair that delivers high-intensity electromagnetic stimulation can improve bowel leakage (fecal incontinence) and quality of life in people who have a J-pouch after surgery for ulcerative colitis. Participants will sit on the Emsella chair for 28 minutes, twice a week for three weeks. Researchers will measure changes in incontinence, quality of life, and sexual function before, during, and after treatment.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
High Intensity Focused Electromagnetic Stimulation delivered via the Emsella chair
What this could lead to
If effective, this non-invasive chair treatment could offer a drug-free way to reduce fecal incontinence and improve quality of life for people living with a J-pouch after ulcerative colitis surgery.
What could go wrong
This is a small pilot study with only 20 participants, so results may not apply broadly. The treatment's benefits are uncertain, and there may be unknown risks or discomfort during sessions.
