Botox for bowel leaks? small study tests new hope for kids
NCT ID NCT06785844
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This early-stage study is testing whether injecting Botox into the rectum can help children aged 4-18 who have severe, non-retentive fecal incontinence (leaking stool not caused by constipation). The 14 participants will receive one round of injections and be tracked for 15 weeks to see if accidents become less frequent. It is a small, open-label pilot, so results are preliminary.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Botulinum toxin A (Botox)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a new treatment option for children with hard-to-treat fecal incontinence.
What could go wrong
This is a very early, small pilot study with only 14 children. It is not placebo-controlled, so results may be less reliable. The treatment may not work or could have side effects.
