AI could help IVF doctors pick the best embryo

NCT ID NCT06408389

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026

Summary

This study will analyze videos of developing embryos from 1,500 IVF cycles to see if a computer algorithm can predict which ones will successfully implant in the womb. Researchers will combine embryo growth patterns with patient health data to train the algorithm. The goal is to create a more objective tool to help doctors choose the embryo with the best chance of leading to a live birth.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this could lead to a more reliable way to choose the best embryo for IVF, potentially increasing pregnancy success rates.

What could go wrong

This is an early, retrospective study using existing data. The algorithm may not work as well in real-time or in different fertility clinics, and it does not test a new treatment.
