NCT ID NCT04733079
First seen Oct 31, 2025 · Last updated Jun 22, 2026 · Updated 35 times
Summary
This study tests whether regular email communication between gout patients and their doctors can help lower uric acid levels more effectively than standard care. 204 adults with confirmed gout will either follow usual care or use a secure messaging system to adjust their medication dose until their uric acid target is reached. The goal is to see if this remote, treat-to-target approach can improve gout control and reduce flares.

What this could lead to
If successful, this could offer a simple, remote way to manage gout effectively, reducing flares and complications.
What could go wrong
This is a relatively small, early-stage trial comparing email follow-up to usual care. The approach may not work for everyone, and results may not apply to all gout patients.
