Dentist education cuts opioid scripts for teens and young adults

NCT ID NCT06130904

First seen Apr 19, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This study tested whether an educational program called 'academic detailing' could reduce the number of opioid prescriptions dentists write for patients aged 13 to 30. Researchers worked with 92 high-prescribing dentists in Southeast Michigan, comparing those who received the training to those who did not. The goal was to see if education alone could change prescribing behavior and lower opioid use among young people.
