Can starting a new rescue inhaler in the ER keep asthma patients out of the hospital?

NCT ID NCT07166939

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests whether giving adults with acute asthma a specific rescue inhaler (Airsupra) right in the emergency department can reduce the chance of another asthma attack within 3 months. About 1,860 participants will either receive Airsupra or continue usual care. The goal is to see if early use of this inhaler leads to better asthma control and fewer urgent visits.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Airsupra (a combination inhaler for asthma rescue)

What this could lead to

If successful, this could show that starting Airsupra in the emergency department helps prevent asthma attacks and improves control after discharge.

What could go wrong

This is a phase 4 study, so Airsupra is already approved, but it may not significantly reduce asthma recurrence compared to usual care. Results depend on real-world adherence and may not apply to all asthma patients.
