New PET scan could spot hidden prostate cancer after treatment
NCT ID NCT07185165
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This phase II trial is testing whether a special PET/CT scan using flotufolastat F 18 can accurately find prostate cancer that remains or returns after focal therapy (such as laser or freezing). The study will enroll 81 men who had focal therapy 6 to 36 months ago. If the scan works well, it may offer a less invasive way to check for leftover cancer compared to standard methods.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Flotufolastat F 18 (radioactive tracer)
What this could lead to
If successful, this imaging method could offer a less invasive way to find residual or recurrent prostate cancer after focal therapy, potentially guiding better treatment decisions.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase trial (81 participants) focused on imaging accuracy, not treatment. The method may not be reliable enough to replace standard biopsies, and results may not apply to all patients.
