Brain scans may predict who will respond to psychosis treatment
NCT ID NCT02670447
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study is testing whether MRI brain scans can help predict which patients having their first psychotic episode will not respond to standard treatment. Researchers will scan 80 people aged 18-35 with schizophrenia or related disorders who have never taken antipsychotic medication. The goal is to see if certain brain markers can identify non-responders by the third month of treatment.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging)
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could help doctors identify non-responding patients earlier, allowing for faster adjustments in treatment.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage study (80 participants) focused on observation, not treatment. The MRI markers may not prove reliable enough for routine use.
