First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests whether a 6-week self-management program, done with a caregiver's help, can improve diabetes control and thinking skills in adults aged 55+ who have both diabetes and mild cognitive impairment. About 309 participants will attend weekly group sessions and provide feedback. The goal is to see if this approach works in real-world settings.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Chronic Disease Self-Management Program (CDSMP) plus caregiver support

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a practical way to help older adults with both diabetes and memory problems better manage their health with support from a caregiver.

What could go wrong

This is an early-stage study testing a behavioral program, not a drug. Results may not apply to all patients, and improvements may be modest or hard to sustain.
