New cocktail aims to stop bile duct cancer recurrence
NCT ID NCT07679399
First seen Jul 01, 2026 · Last updated Jul 01, 2026
Summary
This phase II trial tests whether a combination of durvalumab (an immunotherapy), chemotherapy (GEMOX or GC), followed by lenvatinib (a targeted therapy) can prevent biliary tract cancer from coming back after surgery. About 222 adults with bile duct or gallbladder cancer will be randomly assigned to receive either this combination or standard capecitabine chemotherapy. The main goal is to see if the combination improves the number of patients who remain cancer-free one year after treatment.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
durvalumab, gemcitabine, oxaliplatin, cisplatin, lenvatinib, capecitabine
What this could lead to
If successful, this combination could offer a more effective way to prevent biliary tract cancer from returning after surgery.
What could go wrong
This is a phase II trial, so results are preliminary. The combination may cause more side effects than standard therapy and may not improve survival.
