Brain training showdown: walking while thinking vs. computer games for memory loss

NCT ID NCT07547111

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study compares two types of cognitive training in adults aged 65 and older with mild cognitive impairment (MCI). One group will do 'dual-task training' that combines physical movement with mental tasks, like walking while counting backward. The other group will use computer-based cognitive exercises. Over eight weeks, researchers will measure changes in memory, thinking speed, balance, and daily living skills to see which approach works better.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Dual-task training and computer-based cognitive rehabilitation

What this could lead to

If successful, this could show which type of cognitive training is more effective for improving memory, thinking, and mobility in older adults with mild cognitive impairment.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage trial with only 42 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The study has not yet started recruiting, and the interventions may show no clear difference.
