New Non-Contact laser could make glaucoma treatment easier
NCT ID NCT07408154
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study compares two FDA-approved laser treatments for open-angle glaucoma: the standard SLT and a newer, non-contact version called DSLT. Both aim to lower eye pressure and prevent vision loss. About 172 adults with glaucoma or high eye pressure will be randomly assigned to one treatment and followed for 12 months to see which is safer and more effective.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
laser treatment (Direct Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty or Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty)
What this could lead to
If DSLT works as well as or better than standard SLT, it could offer a more comfortable and efficient way to lower eye pressure and prevent vision loss in glaucoma patients.
What could go wrong
This is a relatively small, early-stage comparison. The newer DSLT may not prove superior or could have unexpected side effects. Results may not apply to all glaucoma types.
