Brain chemical dopamine may unlock motivation in depressed patients

NCT ID NCT05909267

First seen Apr 06, 2026 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 5 times

Summary

This study looks at whether increasing dopamine can help with motivation and movement problems in people with major depression who have signs of inflammation. Researchers will give a dopamine-boosting drug or a placebo to 165 participants (depressed patients and healthy volunteers) and measure their effort, walking speed, and reward-seeking behavior. The goal is to understand the link between inflammation, dopamine, and depression symptoms, not to test a new treatment.
