New balloon aims to clear calcified leg arteries safely
NCT ID NCT07397390
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests a special balloon designed to open up hardened leg arteries in people with peripheral artery disease. About 58 participants with moderate to severe calcium buildup will receive the balloon treatment. Researchers will check if the balloon successfully widens the artery and improves blood flow, and will follow patients for 6 months to see if further procedures are needed.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
DKutting LL scoring balloon (a medical device used to widen narrowed arteries)
What this could lead to
If successful, this balloon could offer a safer, more effective way to prepare hardened leg arteries for treatment, potentially reducing complications and repeat procedures.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with only 58 participants and no comparison group. The balloon may not work better than standard treatments, and risks like artery damage or blockage remain.
