Alcoholism drug may hold key to restoring sight

NCT ID NCT06319872

Summary

This study is testing whether disulfiram, a medication used to treat alcohol use disorder, can improve vision in people with retinal degeneration diseases like macular degeneration and retinitis pigmentosa. The trial will enroll 15 adults who have both a retinal condition and alcohol use disorder, and who are already candidates for disulfiram treatment. Researchers will measure changes in visual acuity, contrast sensitivity, and other vision tests over time to see if the drug helps.
