Escape room game boosts nursing skills, but not test scores
NCT ID NCT07204899
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tested whether a digital escape room game could help nursing students learn how to manage hypovolemic shock, a life-threatening condition. Fifty-five third-year nursing students were split into two groups: one played the game, the other had a traditional lecture. While the game didn't improve test scores, students who played reported more enjoyment, motivation, and better critical thinking. The game also helped them practice quick decision-making in a safe, realistic setting.

Active substance
digital escape room game
What this could lead to
If successful, this approach could become a fun, effective way to train nurses in emergency care, improving their critical thinking and decision-making.
What could go wrong
This was a small study with 55 students, and it found no improvement in test scores. The game may not directly translate to better real-world performance.
