Diet boosts IBD drug power? new study tests food as medicine
NCT ID NCT06896305
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether adding a special diet called the Crohn's Disease Exclusion Diet (CDED) to standard anti-TNF therapy can improve outcomes for people with active Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis. Eighty adults starting anti-TNF drugs will be randomly assigned to either receive dietary advice on CDED or continue with medication alone. The goal is to see if the diet helps more patients achieve symptom remission and better quality of life.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Crohn's Disease Exclusion Diet (CDED) plus anti-TNF therapy
What this could lead to
If it works, this could show that a specific diet helps anti-TNF drugs work better for people with inflammatory bowel disease, potentially improving symptom control and quality of life.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with only 80 participants. Diet adherence is voluntary and not enforced, so results may vary. The diet is restrictive and may be hard to follow long-term.
