First seen Apr 04, 2026 · Last updated May 11, 2026 · Updated 4 times
Summary
This small study tested whether electrically stimulating the diaphragm (the main breathing muscle) could improve lung function in brain dead organ donors whose lungs were initially not good enough for transplant. Three donors received a temporary pacing device. The goal was to see if this approach is safe and could help make more donor lungs usable.
