Texts and a tiny sensor: new study aims to improve diabetes control without insulin
NCT ID NCT06296550
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This study is testing whether adding a continuous glucose monitor (CGM) to a text-message diabetes education program helps people with type 2 diabetes better manage their blood sugar. About 140 participants who do not use insulin will receive daily texts about diabetes care and a CGM to track glucose levels in real time. The main goal is to see if this combination lowers A1c levels over six months.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
continuous glucose monitor (Dexcom G7) and text-based diabetes education
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that combining real-time glucose monitoring with text support helps people with type 2 diabetes better manage their blood sugar without insulin.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with only 140 participants and no blinding, so results may not apply to everyone. The intervention requires active participation and a compatible cellphone.
