Can triple therapy kickstart diabetes remission? new study aims to find out

NCT ID NCT07374328

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study compares two triple-drug combinations to see which works better for controlling blood sugar and possibly achieving diabetes remission in people newly diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. About 240 adults aged 18-65 with very high blood sugar (HbA1c ≥9%) will be randomly assigned to receive either an injectable drug (semaglutide) plus two oral medications, or three oral medications. After 6 months of treatment, those whose blood sugar drops below a certain level will stop all diabetes drugs and be monitored for 3 months to see if remission is maintained.
