Telehealth bridge could close the gap for ER patients with new diabetes diagnosis
NCT ID NCT05899023
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study looks at why some people diagnosed with diabetes in the emergency room don't follow up with a regular doctor. Researchers will test whether a telehealth visit soon after diagnosis helps patients get connected to outpatient care. The trial involves 200 adults in New York City and Long Island who are newly diagnosed with diabetes.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Telehealth bridge visits
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that a simple telehealth visit after an ER diagnosis helps patients get ongoing diabetes care and better manage their condition.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial focused on follow-up rates, not on long-term health outcomes. The intervention may not work for everyone or may not lead to lasting improvements.
