NCT ID NCT07434206
First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether dexmedetomidine, a sedative, can safely control blood pressure and heart rate during surgery to remove active thyroid tumors. Eighty adults aged 20 to 65 are randomly assigned to receive either dexmedetomidine or the standard drug labetalol. The goal is to see if dexmedetomidine provides smoother blood pressure control without causing dangerous drops afterward.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ not medical advice or a prediction.

- Dexmedetomidine (Precedex)
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could offer a safer way to manage blood pressure spikes during thyroid tumor surgery, reducing complications.
- What could go wrong
- This is a mid-stage trial with only 80 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The drug may not outperform standard treatments and could cause low blood pressure or slow heart rate.
