First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study looked at whether giving a medicine called dexmedetomidine during major abdominal surgery can lower the chance of confusion (delirium) in patients aged 65 and older. About 268 elderly patients took part, and researchers checked for confusion twice a day while they were in the hospital. The goal was to see if the drug helps keep older adults clearer-headed after surgery.
