First seen Sep 30, 2025 · Last updated May 18, 2026 · Updated 28 times

Summary

This study looked at whether giving the anti-inflammatory drug dexamethasone during surgery can extend the pain relief from a nerve block in children having ankle or foot surgery. The goal was to see if it delays the first time a child needs strong pain medicine (opioids) and reduces overall opioid use. The trial included 90 children weighing more than 5 kg, and excluded those with infections, bleeding problems, or weak immune systems.
