Heart scan study aims to predict artery disease in High-Risk patients
NCT ID NCT07427472
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study follows 300 adults aged 30–60 with genetically confirmed familial hypercholesterolemia, a condition causing very high cholesterol. Researchers use CT scans to see how coronary artery plaques change over 5 years. The goal is to better understand disease progression and identify those at highest risk.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA) with contrast dye
What this could lead to
If successful, this could help doctors better predict and monitor heart disease in people with familial hypercholesterolemia, leading to earlier interventions.
What could go wrong
This is an observational imaging study, not a treatment trial. It will not directly improve health, and results may not apply to all patients.
