Online training could sharpen Pathologists' eye for melanoma
NCT ID NCT05004792
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether an online training platform called DermLoop Learn can improve how pathologists diagnose melanoma from skin lesion images. 258 pathologists will be randomly assigned to receive the training or not, and their diagnostic accuracy will be compared against a panel of expert pathologists. The goal is to see if additional dermoscopy training helps pathologists make more accurate diagnoses.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- DermLoop Learn digital educational platform
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could show that online dermoscopy training improves pathologists' accuracy in diagnosing melanoma, potentially leading to better patient outcomes.
- What could go wrong
- This is an early-stage study that measures diagnostic accuracy, not patient health outcomes. The training may not translate to real-world improvements, and results depend on pathologists' engagement.
