First seen Oct 31, 2025 · Last updated May 27, 2026 · Updated 35 times

Summary

This study tests whether a supplement called pregnenolone can improve depression symptoms in people living with HIV. Participants take either pregnenolone or a placebo pill for a period, while continuing their usual antidepressant medications. Researchers use brain scans and questionnaires to see if the supplement changes brain chemistry and mood. The study involves 120 adults aged 18-85 with well-controlled HIV and significant depressive symptoms.
