Wisdom tooth graft showdown: donor vs. Patient's own dentin
NCT ID NCT06457373
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether a donor tooth-derived bone graft works as well as a patient's own tooth graft for preserving jawbone after impacted wisdom tooth extraction. Forty adults with similar impacted wisdom teeth on both sides of the jaw will receive one graft type per side. Researchers will measure bone height and width using special tools and CT scans to see which graft better maintains the socket.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Demineralized dentin graft (from donor or patient's own tooth)
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could point toward a reliable way to preserve jawbone after tooth extraction, potentially improving future dental implant success.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage study with only 40 participants. It may not show a clear difference between the two graft types, and results may not apply to other teeth or patients.
