First seen Oct 31, 2025 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 24 times

Summary

This study tested whether denosumab, a drug that slows bone breakdown, can prevent the rapid bone loss that often happens after weight-loss surgery. Researchers gave the drug to postmenopausal women and men aged 50 or older who were planning gastric bypass or sleeve gastrectomy. The goal was to see if it could protect their hip bone density and lower their risk of fractures.
