First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 34 times
Summary
This study tested a different surgical technique called delayed coloanal anastomosis for people with medium or lower rectal cancer. The goal was to see if it could lower the chance of a dangerous leak where the colon is reconnected, and reduce the need for a temporary or permanent colostomy bag. The trial included 124 patients and compared this new approach to the standard immediate reconnection surgery.
