Could Neighbor-to-Neighbor first aid save lives in cameroon?

NCT ID NCT07581327

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study will train over 1,800 lay first responders—like taxi drivers and shopkeepers—in Cameroon to provide basic first aid and safe transport for injured people. Researchers will compare survival rates before and after the training program. The goal is to see if a data-driven, locally adapted training program can improve trauma care in a region without a formal ambulance system.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Lay First Responder (LFR) training

What this could lead to

If successful, this could show that training community members in basic first aid improves survival after injuries in areas without formal ambulance services.

What could go wrong

This is an early-stage implementation study, not a randomized trial. Results may not apply to other regions, and the training may not reduce deaths as hoped.
