Tiny radioactive seeds tested again for stubborn skin cancers

NCT ID NCT04540588

First seen Jan 10, 2026 · Last updated Jun 23, 2026 · Updated 29 times

Summary

This study tested whether a second treatment with DaRT, a device that places tiny radioactive seeds directly into tumors, is safe and effective for people whose skin, mouth, or soft tissue cancers returned after initial DaRT therapy. Only 2 participants were enrolled, and researchers measured tumor shrinkage and side effects. The approach aims to control local disease without surgery.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Diffusing Alpha Radiation Emitters Therapy (DaRT) device

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a retreatment option for patients whose skin, mouth, or soft tissue cancers come back after initial DaRT therapy.

What could go wrong

This is a very early study with only 2 participants, so results are not generalizable. The treatment involves inserting radioactive seeds into tumors, which carries risks like local side effects or incomplete tumor coverage.
