Tiny radioactive seeds aim to zap recurrent prostate cancer
NCT ID NCT07290998
First seen Jan 04, 2026 · Last updated Jun 24, 2026 · Updated 27 times
Summary
This early study tests a new device called Alpha DaRT, which places tiny radioactive seeds directly into prostate tumors that have returned after initial treatment. The main goal is to see if it's safe, with a secondary look at whether it can control the cancer. Up to 12 men with locally recurrent prostate cancer will be enrolled.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Diffusing Alpha Radiation Emitters (DaRT) seeds
What this could lead to
If successful, this could offer a new, targeted radiation option for men with recurrent prostate cancer, potentially controlling the disease without more invasive treatments.
What could go wrong
This is a very small, early safety study with only 12 participants. It may not show clear effectiveness, and there could be unexpected side effects from the radioactive seeds.
