Radioactive 'Seeds' take on pancreatic cancer
NCT ID NCT06755359
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests a new approach for locally advanced pancreatic cancer: tiny radioactive sources placed directly into the tumor to deliver alpha radiation. The treatment is combined with standard chemotherapy. The main goal is to check safety in 40 participants, but researchers will also look at whether it shrinks tumors and improves survival.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Diffusing Alpha Radiation Emitters Therapy (DaRT) - radioactive sources inserted into the tumor
What this could lead to
If successful, this could offer a new treatment option for locally advanced pancreatic cancer by combining targeted radiation with chemotherapy to control the disease.
What could go wrong
This is an early safety study with only 40 participants, so effectiveness is not yet proven. The procedure involves inserting radioactive sources into the tumor, which carries risks like infection or damage to nearby organs.
