Blood clot marker may reveal pneumonia danger
NCT ID NCT07199530
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study is looking at whether a blood test called D-dimer can help doctors understand how serious pneumonia is and how well patients might recover. Researchers will measure D-dimer levels in 50 adults admitted to the hospital with community-acquired pneumonia and compare them to standard severity scores. The goal is to see if higher D-dimer levels are linked to worse inflammation and survival.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could help doctors use a simple blood test to quickly assess pneumonia severity and guide treatment decisions.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early observational study with only 50 participants, so results may not apply to all patients. It does not test a new treatment.
