New blood test may spot kidney damage sooner after dye procedures
NCT ID NCT07197957
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This study looks at whether a blood test for cystatin C can detect acute kidney injury earlier than the standard test in people with chronic kidney disease who receive contrast dye for CT scans or heart procedures. Researchers will compare how often kidney injury is found using each test in 100 adult inpatients. The goal is to see if cystatin C provides a faster warning, allowing doctors to act sooner.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
cystatin C blood test
What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to faster and more accurate detection of kidney injury after contrast dye procedures, potentially preventing serious kidney damage.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with only 100 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The test may not prove significantly better than current methods.
