Precision radiation boost after chemo shows promise for tough lung cancers
NCT ID NCT00945451
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tested whether adding a precise, high-dose radiation treatment called CyberKnife after standard chemo and radiation could help people with stage III non-small cell lung cancer. It included 35 patients who had 1 to 3 small tumors left after initial treatment. The goal was to find the safest dose and see how well it shrank tumors.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
CyberKnife radiosurgery (a precise type of radiation)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a way to boost tumor control for people with stage III lung cancer who cannot have surgery.
What could go wrong
This was a small, early-phase study (35 people) looking at side effects and best dose, not a large test of effectiveness. The added radiation may cause more lung or esophageal side effects.
