New injection could rival PRP for shoulder pain relief
NCT ID NCT06160427
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study compares two types of injections for people with shoulder pain caused by rotator cuff tendinopathy. One injection, CTM Boost, is made from donated placental tissue, and the other, PRP, uses a patient's own blood. The goal is to see if CTM Boost works as well as PRP at reducing pain and improving shoulder function after a single injection. The trial involves 92 adults aged 18 to 80.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Connective Tissue Matrix (CTM) Boost, a biologic derived from placental connective tissue, and Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP), made from the patient's own blood
What this could lead to
If CTM Boost proves as effective as PRP, it could offer another treatment option for people with shoulder pain from rotator cuff tendinopathy.
What could go wrong
This is a relatively small, single-center trial comparing two existing treatments, so results may not apply broadly. There is also a chance CTM Boost is less effective than PRP.
