First seen Apr 18, 2026 · Last updated Jun 22, 2026 · Updated 10 times
Summary
This phase 2 study tested a weekly extended-release capsule of calcifediol (CTAP101) in 44 adults with chronic kidney disease on hemodialysis who also had vitamin D insufficiency and secondary hyperparathyroidism. The goal was to see if the drug could raise vitamin D levels and lower parathyroid hormone. The trial was terminated early, so results are incomplete.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Calcifediol (CTAP101) extended-release capsules
What this could lead to
If successful, this could offer a new treatment option to manage secondary hyperparathyroidism in kidney disease patients on dialysis.
What could go wrong
This was a small, early-phase trial that was terminated, so results are limited. The treatment may not prove effective or safe in larger studies.
Conditions
