Chill out: cryotherapy tested for MS fatigue

NCT ID NCT05219201

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tested whether partial-body cryotherapy (standing in a very cold chamber for 2-3 minutes) could help reduce fatigue in people with multiple sclerosis during a rehabilitation stay. 43 participants received either real cryotherapy at -120°C or a sham version at -30°C over 15 sessions. The main goal was to see if fatigue scores improved.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

partial-body cryotherapy (device)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a drug-free way to manage fatigue in multiple sclerosis during rehabilitation stays.

What could go wrong

This is a small, completed trial with only 43 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The effect on fatigue is measured by a questionnaire, not a direct biological test.
