Freezing breast tumors: a new hope for metastatic cancer control?
NCT ID NCT07676344
First seen Jun 30, 2026 · Last updated Jul 01, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study investigates cryoablation, a procedure that freezes and destroys tumor tissue, for treating the primary breast tumor in women with metastatic breast cancer. The goal is to see if this minimally invasive approach can control the local tumor for 12 months while patients continue their standard systemic therapy. The trial will also assess pain, quality of life, and safety. It includes 42 women whose metastatic disease is stable or responding to treatment.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
cryoablation (freezing procedure)
What this could lead to
If successful, cryoablation could offer a minimally invasive option to control the primary breast tumor in metastatic breast cancer, potentially improving local symptoms and quality of life without interrupting systemic treatments.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase study with only 42 participants, so results may not apply broadly. Cryoablation may not prevent tumor regrowth, and risks include infection, pain, or damage to nearby tissue.
