Could a cancer drug shrink NF2 tumors?
NCT ID NCT04283669
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This phase 2 trial tested the drug crizotinib in 12 people with neurofibromatosis type 2 (NF2) who had growing tumors in the ear area called vestibular schwannomas. Participants took crizotinib pills daily for up to 12 months. The main goal was to see if the drug could shrink the tumors by at least 20%.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
crizotinib
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a treatment that shrinks tumors and helps manage NF2-related hearing loss.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase trial with only 12 people, so results may not apply widely. The drug may cause side effects or fail to shrink tumors.
